Smile help finding the right forum for "mounting" cd rom drives

First of all, I heard from my roommate using linux too that I have to "mount" cd rom drives to make them work
I just installed linux, now I´m surfing the whole lq-forums to find ´step by step´instructions for "mounting"
Any Idea where to find one?
I just know that my sony cd rw crx 1611 is in general compatible to linux...

Wich distro? mandrake has some auto mounting features

you can always use the normal way:
mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdxn /mn/cdrom

replace x with the drive letter and n with the partion number.
