Old dog lost to the world of MS, finding his way home

Once upon a time (over 20 years ago), I was a Linux project contributor, but due to professional and personal constraints, I got lost in the world of Microsoft. Now that I'm retired and have a lot of time on my hands, I'm returning to the Linux world. Currently, I am dating multiple distributions to find a mate that feels good. Although I'm likely to ask many questions, I'll do a bit of reading first.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Welcome (back)! Many things have changed yet many are the same. Some of the adventure will be figuring out which. For desktop, one of the Linux Mints might be good. A lot use Debian or CentOS on their servers. Over time I developed a preference for the former though am slowly and begrudgingly moving on to Devuan.

Got Slack?

For that cozy, pipe and dinner jacket, from the days of old I suggest a revisit to Slackware. That and Debian were my favourite when I first started and then I wandered the distro forest. Having found my way back after fustration and disgust at the way distros are going I' am happy again being a Slacker. No systemd. No SysV. No bs. Just you, your computer, and the old Unix feeling.
