Newby, using Ubuntu 10 and starting using Arch Linux
Hello Everybody,
I have been using Ubuntu for some years now, but I have only been just using it. I haven't used the terminal a lot. At this moment I have started using Arch Linux on an ASUS Eee webbook. This turns out to be quite a learning curve. But now I am gainig a better understanding, at last. As I still have some problems to solve I came to the LQ forum. Kind regards! |
HI and welcome to LQ.
Make sure you make yourself familiar with Arch's excellent wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Main_Page |
Yes, the Arch Wiki is a truly great source of info...and not just for Arch! Some of the info there is distro-agnostic: I've been able to get a net connection shared between Ubuntu and Arch via a crossover cable using the info on this page. Worked nicely! I've long abandoned Ubuntu, but the point I'm making is that the information on that site can be useful for distros other than Arch. :)

Thanks!
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the welcome and the tips! I must admit, I have used the beginners' guide at the Arch Wiki as a step by step guide. It has been a great help and GNOME is running. The thing that amazes me is that there are so many desktop environments to choose from. The agony of choice.... Anyway, I wish to get a better understanding of what is going on inside my computer. I's like to start programming, but find it hard to find the time. Partly, matter of priorities, the other part is distractions. regards! |
