Question Newbie to Linux and then not

I am new to linux on terminal level. As many other i have worked with routers, radioes, and other equip that is related to Linux. Fiddle with Android B4A as i find this interesting. Have programmed C in the old days before platform opr systems. Now i want to come back wow many stones on the road on the way up. I hope this forum cam help me to get through these stones on the way over the hill.
Now i have seleted Ubuntu to start with but with intension to come more hardcore on Linux and other distros. What force me to seek help is stupid simple things for more hardcore guys, but for me a mountain because i dont understand how terminal syntax and kernel things work. You can read and read still dont get a klue why not work. I think (hope) many have it on same way as me, in the begining.
