Newbie.

Hi,

I've never used Linux before and am looking to either get a laptop with it preloaded or to download it onto a new one. I'm still trying to do my research and not ask too many stupid questions, but any advice is welcome.

Thanks,
Andi

Welcome to LQ. We were all newbies once.

There are several US vendors of native Linux machines: Zareason, ThinkPenguin, and System76. There may be others I haven't heard of (not counting Dell, which offers Linux on some of its machines).

Me, I have three Zareasons and have had excellent experiences with their warranty support. I have also had good experiences with ThinkPenguin. My Zareason laptop has the best laptop keyboard I have ever used.

I've had no dealings with System76. I've heard good things about them, but they are too wedded to Ubuntu for me. Zareason and ThinkPenguin allow you to pick your distro.

Just my two cents.

Also, there's no such thing as a stupid question, until one asks it a second time . . . .

Thank you so much for all of this. I will check out ZaReason. I think I'm pretty much sold on Elementary OS Juno but just need to nail down a system. I'm not happy with my current HP laptop so I'll be keeping it only as a word processor since it's laggy and annoys me. I really want a Tuxedo but I'm not sure how hard it would be to get it serviced since it comes from Germany and I'm in the US.
