new newb

Just dropping a few lines to let ya know a little about me. I'm Linux user #358166. Just registered today and tho I haven't made a total switch to linux yet I feel it won't be long.

Currently running:
Dual Boot
(Fedora Core 2
Linux kernel-2.6.6-1.427
Windows XP Pro)
Celeron 1.7 GHZ
512MB Ram
Geforce 4 MX 440
(1) 40 GB Harddrive
(2) 10 GB Hardrive's
DVD/CD-RW Burner
Soundblaster 16
Connect thru a Linksys Router to RoadRunner
at 3000kbps D/L 1200kpbs U/L

I'm not a complete newb to Linux, I've run Slackware on an old box I used to have, but after many problems with the box I salvaged what I could and scrapped the rest. I'm looking to Linux to give me what I've been missing from Windows. Freedom, that's the one main reason, the other is I bought XP Home and it was sh*t, it wouldn't reboot at all. It would just hang there waiting so I would have to kill the power on it. So after much digging around for a solution and only finding one solution which was to ahem*download*ahem XP Pro which didn't have the problem of hanging on reboot. I did and it's aight but not what I was hoping for.
So here I am. Want to know more just ask, if not good cause I don't wanna tell. Now on to more important things, like where do I find the beer in this here joint?

Welcome to LQ :D

I have the feeling that history will regard XP Home as the NT world's ME. I too ditched it because it was... well, pants. It left me with more problems than it solved.

As to the beer, well that's a Moderator perk - we drank it just before you arrived ;)

Hard work, clean living, flying right, keeping your nose to the wheel, the pedal to the metal. Oh, and money, lots and lots of money - Jeremy prefers unmarked, non sequential bills - preferably of denominations under $50.

Seriously, Jeremy chooses moderators from the membership based on a number of things. Best thing you can do is post good questions, answer questions where you can and don't break our Rules and one day, around 3 in the morning, several husky and vaguely threatening gentlemen may knock on your door :)
