Hello everyone! Perhaps afew of you have seen me around, but I never got a chance to introduce myself. My name is Carl and I used to live in Seattle, WA. (in M$ territory) I'm an MCSE student but I do not think that windows is the 'greatest thing since sliced bread'! In fact, it wasn't until going to MCSE classes that I decided to give linux a try. I felt that I wanted more from my computer and I didn't feel I could get there with M$. I've been familiar with open source software for some time now. I tried to use non propritary software under windows. So I at least knew of the availability of OSS and I thought it was wonderful.

So I decided to make the plunge. I chose RedHat 8.0 as my starting point. I know alot of you guys make fun of RH, but you hafta realize that it's the only linux distro that I had heard of before jumping into the linux ring. Anyway, RH 8 was getting alot of great press so I decided it was worth a shot. The install was great, had a couple of hardware issues, but this site helped me sort through it all. I was very happy!

Then RH 9 came out. Ugh! That means that I'll hafta start all over again. (I guess it's a habit from windows...I don't do upgrades) It went more smoothly than the first time. I guess since I was already familiar with what was going on under the hood. I then decided to ditch windows altogether. (I still have 5 PC's that are running some version of windows...but I hardly ever boot into them.) In order to do that, I had to set up my DVD player install a P2P app...stuff like that. Now I'm extremely happy!! :)

I'll probably never be completely windows free. (it is going to be my career and all) But I definitely think that Linux is the better of the 2 OS's. More importantly, I believe that Linux is the OS of the future!

One of these days, I may try a so-called 'real' distro. But honestly I believe that RedHat was made for users like myself. It's stable and easy.

Thanks for letting me ramble.
