London Linux Lover

Hi,

I'm in London (UK) and have been a Linux groupie for many years. I'm not terribly proficient though, as I just end up installing the newest releases of various distributions rather than fixing up my own release - I'm a virgin when it comes to compiling my own kernel, though intend to pop my cherry shortly.

Also, not really sure what's going on when I compile a programme - works or it doesn't mainly. Linux has moved on so quickly in just a few years that using apt-get means that quite a lot of stuff seems to be slipping under the bonnet to me, so I feel less involved than in the early days of having to find out what a partition was even before I could create one.

But I love the whole GPL phenomenon and the amazing results it has spawned and would like to get involved a bit more - if anyone wants some help on a project - a website (basic) or document writing, or English tidied up from rough translation, I'd love to hear about it.

I'm going to try and make it to the London Linux User Group meet sometime (only managed once so far) and the local perl mongers (little bit of perl knowledge and a big fan).

Currently running openSUSE 10 on my desktop, SUSE 9.1 (I think) on my laptop and Ubuntu on my Mac Mini (want to get myth TV running on it and have a tidy little multimedia thing for the living room).

Wow, my whole life story! Anyway, hello

Assuming we get a stand and the mods to staff it, don't miss LWE in the Olympia - usually around October.

Welcome to LQ :D

It was very well organised and well-attended. More of a pub social with Linux people - also giving away some Linux goodies, but they organise other events like install fests and talks.

Thanks for the welcome everybody and remind us about Olympia nearer the time and I'll do my best to be there.

Cheers
