Just to say "Hello"

Well I was invited to say "Hi" to all you erudite folks, so this is me doing that and introducing myself as a total newcomer to Linux. As an older (nearly 60) user who had to learn how to use "windoze" my learning curve getting to grips with Ubuntu 10.04 has been huge. The simpler, although different, terminology is a benefit as is the more logical approach to most tasks.

I browse around the various forums looking for answers to my difficulties and usually manage to find some solutions, so "the system works" for me at least. My only criticism would be that when folks answer questions there seems to be an assumption that the person asking the "Q" is reasonably proficient - personally I would appreciate less "jargon" and answers in words of one syllable, if you catch my drift.

Anyway, thanks for all your good work folks, it is appreciated.:hattip:

Hi and welcome to LQ Murox, we look forward to your participation.

Some of the jargon most members use is to try and impress you on how much they know. I do not believe they mean any ill will, it is just their ego showing. Jargon and satisfaction are the only pay.

"Jargon and satisfaction are the only pay."

Yes Larry, you make a very good point. The free giving of knowledge is a rare and valuable thing, and is an enormous strength of most things Linux.
