Just saying hello and looking for some advise
Hello looking to make the jump away from ms after looking around for awhile decided on trying out ubuntu 10.04 know i have a 4 years old that is starting to use the computer what is the simplest distro of linux or is there one that is more geared to the beginner? Other then that hoope that this the start to something great sorry kind of cheesy but thats me

There are some Linux distros that are specifically geared towards children; Qimo comes to mind here.
Other than that, I'd say that Linux Mint is another option (default UI is a little more Windows-like, has more things bundled with it, such as multimedia/Flash support).

Welcome to LQ.
Children tend to adapt quicker than adults, so I wouldn't worry too much on the user interface (within reason)
Check out distrowatch: http://distrowatch.com/ and try a number of distributions.
What works for you is a very personal thing, and you will only find this out by trying a few different versions.
Most distributions have live CD's so you don't always need to install the OS in order to see if you like it.

well first is there written documentation all the online documentation is great but for me to install and run then i will need hard copy as if i do something wrong i will not be able to access the net. thanks to all to help with my son

Yes It can be created in USB. Also try purchasing PC-Engine its very cheap and best.
