Talking just another n00b question


Well recently i installed Linux Redhat9 , i couldnt figure anything out , but in a struggle i finally installed Nvidia drivers , but couldnt install anything much else .... so being the idiot that i am I installed Windows (again) just to be greeted by a crash and nothing working *cough* like always so now im back to linux , and this time im gonna read everything .... but the little i learned i kinda forgot im doing ok but i need to start linux without X , and i forgot how it was something like going into Geedit and switching it to 5 or 3 or something .... please clarify ... Thanks , expect to see more posts from a n00b like me in the future

You can edit /etc/inittab and change the 5 in this line:

id:5:initdefault:

To 1 for single user mode.

It's much better to use 3, not 1. 3 is multiuser mode with network, without X, so the best one for you, I guess.
