Just an introduction

Hello to all. I'm a student in the computer technology field, had some experience with unix years back as a programmer, kind of got attached to it and then quit programming and got trapped in windows. I'm trying to get back and join the Linux world.

I've tried FC4 and SuSe, as well as live cd's like Knoppix. My long term goal is to get a server up and running to provide file sharing on my internal lan and eventually access from the outside. I am starting to get back into programming now too and would like to avoid as much microsoft influence as possible.

I've had a few problems with the installs so far, mostly sound and network controllers, looking for some answers to get me rolling on to the more interesting stuff. I guess that's about all for now.
