It seems I have to introduce myself before I can post my question.

I've been puttering around with various linux distros for several years. I tend to get what I need working an then don't mess with it, which tends to leave me in the dust as things are always changing. I recently updated one of my systems to Fedora 6 and am currently trying to get a number of features that I'd not worried about before working. The current one being a DVD player working as I just added a new Samsung 226BW LCD Monitor to the system and a low end video card upgrade.

It amazes me that this stuff works at all at times.

Why so? Hardware is created to work, software is developed to be able to work with hardware. Things are getting "easier" every day. Or more Windowish if you ask me..
