Introduction
Hello, everyone.
I am a long time Windows user who has gotten fed up with having to re-format and re-image my home PC(s) every few months because of a catastrphic failure, performance issues, virus attacks, spam, hijackers, etc, etc, etc....
I am new to Linux (installed Mandrake about a week ago) and am very pleased with the stability so far. It will take me a while to get used to the different style in Linux (no drive letters, forward slash on command lines, etc.) so be prepared for some simple questions.
As for some personal information, I work for an Engineering/Construction firm in the Application Support Group. Basically, I am assigned respopnsibility for several commercial applications that are used by the engineers. I take care of installation, data maintenance, bug fixes (although I don't fix the bugs. I report them and make sure they are resolved). Right now, my main focus is data integration.
I enjoy reading- fantasy novels, some sci-fi, murder mysteries, classics; I also enjoy nature study (hiking, backpacking, gardening).
I look forward to learning more about Linux and the wonderful world of GNU.
