Introduction

Hello,
I found this group when looking for a question about RPM's on Google, I didn't know what a "src" file was. Thanks to this group I know now and feeling pretty foolish at the same time. I learned micro computers back in college, I think they were 16bit, running CP/M, and I had a C64 at home. I changed directions and I finally got a PC a few years ago, after a few months using Win98 I thought there has got to be a better way. I learned about Linux, and wanted to try it. I couldn't afford the distro's I saw in the computer stores but I found Slackware 3.3 in a dollar store. I installed it on an old computer and found that there was no way for me to use the CD-ROM, ( later I found that even Mandrake didn't have drivers for it ), so many years went by and I learned how to make windows fast and usable. DSL finally came to my area and I am using Mandrake 9.2. I now have no interest in Windoze and am looking forward to installing SuSE. Hopefully I will find a distro that works really well with older computers, my fastest box is a PIII 450, Mandrake seems to use too much memory even though I have cut services to the bone. I am sure I will learn a lot from this group just by reading the old threads and not have to ask too many dumb questions.
