Introducing Myself

Hello everyone. I'm Alan, and I'm new to Linux. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 because I saw that it was one of the more newb-friendly OS's, and so far I'm pretty satisfied with it. I can't say I've played around with it much because I spent close to 12 hours exclusively on trying to get my wireless up and running (I have a broadcom chipset, and although it's widely documented how to solve the problem, I couldn't access the internet while running Ubuntu, so i had to do quite a lot of rebooting) but in all that time I did get to see the efficiency of a Linux system at work.

I used to run Windows XP SP3, but I've now partitioned that off and will probably never go back to it again. The reason I switched to Linux is because I wanted to teach myself how to program, something which Microsoft does not allow you to do very well. I've dabbled a bit in HTML in the past and made a few web pages, but I now plan to learn how to use Python and perhaps make some better things. That's about it for now, and I'm sorry if I wrote too much, but I just love talking about myself. I look forward to using this forum much in the future.
