Introducing myself
 

Hi, my name is Ross and I have come to the Ubuntu experience because I am very disillusioned about the Micro*** methodology.
I have no problem with contributing large amounts of money for products which are developing for my benefit but I do have a problem with paying loads of money to alter the product to the detriment of my other programs and products.
The entire built in obsolescence which is being driven at an ever increasing rate angers me. My first computer was a commodore 64 and I have owned each development level of computer and Operating system.
My favorite experience was DOS 6 and windows 3.1
Now I am not saying that all was rosy in the garden, but that was the last setup where "I" actually told the computer what to do without it arguing and telling me it would do what it liked and I could not do anything about it!!!
The current situation is where I am no longer in control of my system.
The other aspect of the current experience is the all pervasive "update" process and the "verifying your status" bullshit!@#**
Having paid my money, I want it to work for me and I do not want some machine in America saying "we have no record of your product registration"
So bugger them, I am going to learn the LINUX experience and promote all the open products I can find.:)

Welcome. "The times, they are a'changin," and if you're anything like me, you won't miss the Microsoft-Marketing-besotted days when the computer was assumed to be Beyond Human Understanding and the end-user was presumed to be a Brain-Feebled Lout. The Linux world has not forgotten what we all took for granted :D "dammit, not so 'way back then' " :D with our Apple ][s, Amigas, and Commodore-64s.
