Introducing Eric
 

Hi, I'm Eric. I've been using Ubuntu for about a year, starting with Hardy Heron. I upgraded to Lucid Lynx when it came out, but that turned into a no-go.

I found LQ while doing searches for problems with Lucid Lynx, as well as some other Ubuntu config questions.

I quickly got disillusioned with Lucid, since Canonical doesn't seem interested in supporting older hardware going forward. In particular, I'm talking about the problems with the Intel Brookdale-G display device.

I have re-installed Hardy Heron, which works a treat, but I'm now exploring other Linux and BSD distros. Hardy was a good introduction to the world of Linux, but I'm ready to broaden my horizons.

Any guidance is welcome, though I know "Which distro is best?" is too open-ended a question. I'll be doing research on LQ and other forums and narrowing my focus.

LQ looks like a good community, one of the best things about the Linux/FOSS world!
