Intro to the new user, Slackware user since 10.0

I am a Slackware user that occasionally needs help, like right now with 13.1 (which i will post elsewhere). I have used Unix/Ultrix/Sun Unix since the early 1990's, but just got into the PC brand in the past few years with the advent of Linux. I like Slackware because it still has all my old tools (command-line stuff) as well as the graphical user interface stuff, but when i have problems i go back to the Konsole mode. I have mostly stuck with KDE, but have had some problems with KDE 4.x as compared with 3.5. I have yet to compile my own kernel, but mainly because i don't take the time. Sometimes configurational issues make me angry, but then i usually find a workaround on the web somewhere. I use Linux for the networking capabilities - much easier for me to deal with than the Windowz alternatives. I really want to keep my kismet access to wireless stuff, i want to see it all!

My business, such as it is, is to bring high speed Internet to rural areas, however it may happen. I contract with a wireless company to install their equipment, and use satellite (Spacenet/Starband or WildBlue) when i can't get the ground-based wireless at the customer's site. I haven't had much business since my hip replacement (caused by a fall from a roof while trying to replace a customer's bad radio), so have had to look for work in other arenas. I live in rural north-central Illinois near Princeton, Illinois. Website www.doctornetwork.net

Welcome slacker to LQ.

Yep, I really like the CLI also. Once you learn that, it easy to navigate and learn other distros.

I never really liked KDE 4.x, too much eye candy and fluff IMO. :twocents:
