Intro

Hello everyone!

I don't have a question yet so I thought I'd pop in and post an intro. I've had Fedora up for about 2 years but haven't really done much more than install it until recently -- been busy doing other stuff.

I'm primarily a Windows IT Professional and I'm looking at Linux from the perspective of integrating it into an existing Windows domain. We do folding@home and some of our boxes are dying. Rather than fork over for new whiz/bang boxes with that other operating system I'm looking at building bare-bones blades operating linux since all they do is fold.

I am also looking to eventually replace Windows on my desktop because I can't see shelling out for it anymore at home. So far my research tells me that most of what I want to do with a computer at home I can do with linux. I'm not a gamer and multimedia (music, dvd, etc.) support has improved for Linux.

At present, I'm evaluating Fedora and SuSE for my purposes. A colleague in another forum pointed me here as a place to get advice and assistance in this new adventure.

Excellent stuff - good to see that you are taking a measured approach to your entry to the *nix world. Most people tend to jump in and get disillusioned when it doesn't work immediately without tweaking.

Welcome to LQ

Welcome to LQ

Nothing in the computer world works without tweaking. When it appears to I've learned to be very suspicious.

Thanks!
