Idaho, USA

Greetings from Idaho, USA. I'm a long time CS student working full time & taking classes on the side.

As a side business, I am setting up a sales site for sell lesser-known software products. My goal is to work directly with the parent companies of the products for a reduced price, in return for product exposure. Most of these products are created by small cutting edge R&D firms that have no established supply chains. Placing products in-Box to Best Buy, CompUSA, etc requires product manufacturing usually larger than these small companies can afford.

I will be attempting to setup a small site initially offering only a few products. The site is to include mailing lists for bug reports (directly connected to the product developers) and news regarding upgrades (free for life with a purchase) based on rebate registration.

I do not see the demands for this site to expand beyond a simple server. However, the server will need to be solid and the system hardened as much as possible.

To that end, I am reading many HOWTOs and man pages. I have previous experiance with RedHat, so the initial alpha site version will run on RH. Should server needs change, or stability issues develope I may look to other platforms.

Unfortunately I don't expect to be able to contribute many answers to the forums until I have more experience under my belt. I look forward to the time when I can.

Neither did I when I first stumbled in here on a Google search back in '01. Check in the Links section for some great info. Browse the online man pages and search to your heart's content. Apparently this can become habit-forming.

Cheers.
