Talking I've Finally Decided to Ditch "Microsucks Winblows" and run only Linux!

Fed up with trying to squeeze Windows and Linux onto my tiny 13GB hard drive and seeing how Linux has matured over the years to the point that it can actually replace Windows I've finally decided to ditch Windows for Xandros Linux.

I'm not sure how well this is gonna blow over, but I'm gonna give it my best shot. Please keep me from being tempted to switch back to the dark side!

I'm probably going to be asking for a lot of help around here; I've already got one thread in the Hardware forum on getting my joystick to work.

Wish me luck!

Oh, btw, I'm new to this forum site.

If as with your distro forum "badge" shows you really haven't decided on a distro...

If space is an issue then somethign like slackware can be installed in under a gig.

I'm suspicious of xandros just from their website, they charge $10 just to download it over HTTP! they don't seem to have it acumulated on mirrors like pretty much any other distribution, Also with major distributions (of which xandros isn't) it's much easier to get help from places such as lq.

What are your system specs? We might be able to recommend a good distro that you can get for free. I don't mind paying to help support my favorite linux distros but when they charge money without letting you download it for free it usually means there's proprietary software that doesn't fall under the GNU/GPL. Plus a distro like Xandros and Lycoris can tend to be bloated and if you only have a 13 GB Hard Drive I can probably get an estimation at what your system specs are and either of those will run slow.

There are always multiple posts that have people asking what is a good distro for older hardware. Like I've been telling everyone else VectorLinux and Damn Small Linux

You can download Xandros for free using BitTorrent; just look on their download page. I'm using the Open Circulation Edition, btw.

Oh, and that Distro thing on my profile is outdated. I'm going to update it now.

I think I'll give Xandros a try. Who knows maybe my parents will use it.
