I'm retired, must have something to do
Hi All,
Last year I terminated my business and retired (I'm 50 years old). At the end I had some unsellable items left - four old computers, hub, printer and router. I like film, (read DVD's), and one year of experimenting with downloads, spy ware, viruses, page faults and poor system structure in general I've decided to try something else ....... My experience is financial and I know very little about computers and/or operating systems but at least I hope that someday I will be able to view a DVD movie without restart? All the Best, P_Ko P_Ko@spray.se |
Nevermind, I clicked on the wrong button

P_Ko - welcome to LQ :D You should be able to quite easily watch your DVDs without restarting your computer. You need the libdvdcss package and then you will be able to watch DVDs under MPlayer, Totam, Xine and others.

Välkommen till Klubben kompis :). As suggested by XavierP, any good media player will do. Ogle is another good one and it was originally developed in Sweden ;)

Thanks!
I've now installed my distribution (Mandrake 10.1 - Discovery). In fact I have viewed my first DVD without restart (Kaffeineplayer). Reasonable viewing performance in general. I do not know, perhaps I am mistaken, but it seems that the Mandrake 10.1 package is poor in terms of networking. I use several DVD drives on different computers and I perform the viewing over wireless network (802.11g, D-link DWL-G122 with USB 2.0 Cradle). By the way what is the point to have a terminal emulator window for typing of commands in similar way as in the command line interpreter seventies? Commands such as useradd - passwd - ................. Yours very truly, P_Ko |
