I'm new to Linux and would like information on Linux.
Hello, this is my first thread on linux question. I am looking to learn about "command line linux" and some good linux programs. Interested in Linux programs and other assistance.

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,
I would like to point you to the LQ Rules which specify:
Quote:
Posts containing information about cracking, piracy, warez, fraud or any topic that could be damaging to either LinuxQuestions.org or any third party will be immediately removed.
|
If you want to learn Linux then better start at the basics instead of asking about cracking software. Although some might point out it's a thin line between a cracker and a penetration tester, I'm reporting this thread for being in violation with the LQ Rules and let the mods make the necessary decisions.
Kind regards,
Eric

Hi and welcome to LinuxQuestions!
If you want to learn about command line linux this is the right place, but as EricTRA already explained, we don't provide support for explicit cracking activities. On the other hand you will find assistance for installation related problems or usage (even for aircrack-ng or similar software), until your intentions are clear and don't violate the aforementioned rule.
Enjoy the forums!

Hi,

Well at first I was going to offer my advice AND my assistance, as a lot of people here within the LQ community, new or old, ask about air crack and other such programs. I am currently assisting one member via email in setting up injection and monitor mode for his chipset, along with a few other things that refrain me from posting the progress on LQ. That being said though - I guess I should stop all together then, if stuff like this is being said. It happens a lot, and to my knowledge, I am doing the right thing by helping people out on the side with the issues that go against the rules. So a poll question for Eric and <Insert your first name here> (colucix) - Should I keep offering my assistance or not?
Thanks,
Josh

Hi Josh,
I don't have anything to say in the policy making of LQ, that's up to Jeremy and the mod team. I personally don't have anything against teaching other members about security or how to bypass it (if of course it is to be used for legal activities, like penetration testing). The rules that apply here at LQ and to which ones every member agrees when signing up state clearly that the activities as used by aircrack-ng and others are forbidden by those same rules. So if you feel like helping others on that level, please do so, but don't do it on LQ since it would be in violation of the rules. That's my personal opinion, nothing more and nothing less.
Kind regards,
Eric

Eric,
That's what I have said I keep it via email and skype so my assistance doesn't intervene with LQ. Overall what I am saying though is that maybe I should put up an advertisement service so I can keep the forums clean of illegal programs and activities in reference to air crack?

IMO-
1- if you cant figure out aircrack-ng then you shouldnt be using it.
2- It would be one thing for a contributing member to ask a technical question about something to do with aircrack, but as a 1st post its a bit much. (even if this is the member intro area, and they havent really asked anything about it).

Well, I've seen people say stuff about aircank-ng on youtube a few times. They are the sort of people I meant in point #1.
I wouldnt be surpised if a lot of places that do shut threads are NOT 'trying to be the police', they are possibly protecting themselves (yes, your honour, it was website abcdefg.org that helped me setup the cracking tools). There might also be some degree of 'linux is already portrayed in some media as a 'hacking/cracking' OS, do we really want to encourage that'?

substantiates your position? It's good that members point out the violation of the LQ Rules. As to "Everybody wants to be the police.....", you as a member have agreed to to follow the LQ Rules. I suggest that you as a member should be familar with LQ Rules. If not then re-read LQ Rules;

Hi,
Get back on topic! LQ Rules violations have been noted, so do not add to the violation list.
This thread is not the place for debates of this type. Either create a new thread or communicate via PM.

No, I'll live here thanks. People install a new OS, there exited. Like it or not A LOT of people install it to learn more about computing and to "have that hacker feel". All bashing people does it make them feel stupid and very likely not come back. There a nice way to say, Hey your not supposed to ask about hacking and stuff like that, take a look at the rules so you know the policy. But it's never that it's always..PER RULE BLAH BLAH BLAH you can not do xxx or xxx unless xxxx I've reported you!!!! etc. Gimme a break, and to put gas on the fire, once one person does it like people can't read it the first time, 10 more people always have to do it. Guess what nobody reads all the rules when they join a msg forum,,,,ya I'm sure you did. Get a life.
