How it all began...
Hey guys.. glad to have this resource... it's been helpfull on several occasions and helping newbies always feels rewarding. I got addicted to Linux back in 98 around the same time I got my first dial up connection. Being the curious George that I am, I wanted to find out how the internet worked, how web pages were made, hosted and served. I realized that all of these questions were pretty much answered by Linux! I started out with Slackware 3.5 I think.. got all gungho about Linux before I had ever even layed eyes on it. I recall asking myself if it looked anything like windows95! lol Anyhow, I bought a box set of Linux distros and it litterally took me months before my first successfull install. I forgot to mention that I got into Linux at the same time I got into PC's and windows for that matter. I got myself a book on unix since I was told it was the same and with the help of my then mentor, got slackware up and running and it all started from there. Within no time... maybe 2 weeks or so... got pppd rolling and and got XFree86 running and felt high as a kite! Wasn't too long after I got httpd installed and configured for the first time and thought I would make a ton of money hosting people's web sites! lol I think a year later I installed RH 5.2 and have stuck with RH eversince as I recall being able to get passed a road block that had encountered in Slackware... don't ask me what that road block was cause I don't quite recall but I think it was getting the sound blaster drivers compiled properly. It's been about 5 years now and I still feel like a newbie at times and an expert in certain cases when consulting with newbies! lol
Linux is a wonderfull thing and I aspire to make a living from its fruitfullness one day!
Lets educate as many as possible that Linux is a Industral strength problem solver and a cost reducing OS!
Cheers!
Chris =)
