Welcome to LQ. The first thing you are going to learn about FC6 is that it is obsolete. So you'll have trouble getting updates.

GNU/Linux distros have a very fast development cycle, usually 6-8months compared with 5-10 years for certain people. Fedora will maintain the previous release until the next one is out. The current version is f8, when f9 is released, later this year, f7 will become obsolete. f8 will be supported until f10 comes out, 8 months later.

So... you need an update. If you have a book (Fedora Core 6 Bible for eg) then you may as well stick with 6 until you're comfy, then upgrade (it will have to be a complete new install).
