Hi all out there in Linux land!

After cutting my teeth on mainframes around 1970, I've tried a variety of PCs (including many, many years on the MS trail after BBC computers bit the dust), I'm now trying the Linux Mint fork after my inherited XP gave up the ghost during a power cut.
I'm hoping for clear details despite new vocabularies and knowing the ease with which things can be fouled up by relying on steps learnt in another universe as I don't have time (or energy, or finance) left to wade through buckets of waffle (or hex dumps) to find an answer. My BBC Model A came with a proper printed manual detailing its various functions and a proper index, unlike the minimal products one often comes across nowadays with a key link to the dreaded Error 404 page or equivalent.
For me, a computer is a versatile tool that needs clear operating instructions, but within a day of opening Mint, I hit a brick wall trying to attach an Epson XP335 printer (no link to correct printer/scanner drivers): Epson had reneged on a promise made in 2011 to develop support for Linux - how helpful! For now though, I'll explore that on the Mint Forum.
But enough of my current probs, greetings to all and thanks for the welcome.

Hi, geum, and welcome to LQ!

On the vocabulary front, just a wee note that Linux Mint isn't a fork as such, it's a distribution ("distro") based on the Ubuntu LTS versions. See https://www.networkworld.com/article...inux-mint.html (the section entitled "You launched the first release...).

If you can't get your printer working, let me know. I have an Epson XP-432 working on wifi connected to my Mint 18.3 system.

I still have fond memories of programming on BBC Micros.
