Hi everyone, my name is Tony. Yesterday I finally got fed up with Vista and Windows in general and put Fedora 8 on my laptop. Worked without a hitch and I love it so far. Can't wait to learn everything this operating system has to offer. A large reason for the switch was to create an environment for myself more conducive to web development, which it looks already that this certainly will be. Anyway, just wanted to say hello to the community.
Welcome and congratulations on your wise choice. No, doubt, you will find that you have made a good decision if you stay with it. You didn't mention your level of experience, but if you are a web developer, I am sure you are adept with computers. But, if you are completely new to Linux, I would offer just one piece of advice:
Linux is NOT Windows and if you try to use the way you used Windows, you may become frustrated. Expect a completely different experience. Do that, and you will be with Linux from now on.
the people here are correct... unless you choose a pathetically easy Linux distro... well you will get squashed in not knowing anything (hint: Ubuntu was my starting system, now I am a programmer, making my own distro;-)
i am thoroughly enjoying fedora 8 right now. i keep breaking X though in my attempts at getting separate desktops between my big 32" that my laptop is hooked to. not quite sure where to start here. probably read up on xorg.conf huh...
