Hi

Hellooooooo! I thought I'd join since this site seems to answer a lot of my newbie linux questions.

About me: I HATE Microsoft soooo much. How is it that I am STILL putting-up with the same Windoz bugs after 10-15 YEARS!!!??? If I ever start a company there will not be one Windoz box in the building except in the testing dept.

Rant over.

Hi coresay! ... I am also pretty new to this, and find it to be much more likable then windows. I hope everything works out good for you! this forum is very helpful, and the people are pretty smart with what they are doing. I have had only good experiences here ... With all that being said, I belive this thread is for problems that us new guys are having, Such as driver issues or warnings we don't comprehend. The forum has a general thread that is for discussion and whatnot where an introduction and/ or rant like this would fit nicely.

I don't understand. Are you saying I should hold-off on my criticisms until after I replace my ALL of my Windows rigs with Linux? I don't really understand what you are getting at. That little Windows emblem you see next to my profile isn't some badge of honor or promotion for MS, it's just the result of some question I think I was asked when I signed-up... I'll see if I can remove it for you.

Maybe you are assuming that I hate Windows, and THEN I went out and bought Windows 7 and installed it as I was hating it??? You don't really think that do you?

Ever hear the term, "the straw that broke the camel's back"? I just don't understand where this kind of question comes from. Like it's so hard to believe that Windows sucks? Who else is going to know first hand how bad Windows sucks but an actual user of Windows. Would you believe me more if I had never used Windows???

If I told you that a book I read sucked, would you then ask me why I read it if it sucked? Or, if I bought a new Sony MP3 player and I wrote a review on it and said it sucked. Would you then ask me why I own a Sony MP3 player if I think it sucks?

I'm not sure if that cleared things up for you since I don't really understand your confusion in the first place. Maybe you are forgetting that there is sometimes a period of time between when someone determines that they no longer like something they own and the time when they discard it and find a better replacement. Ahhh! I bet THAT's where you are confused! It's a timing thing! Am I right???!!!

No, its not the result of some question on signup, its getting your operating system from your browser user agent.

Which makes silvyus_06s fair enough IMO.

Hello and (a belated) welcome to LinuxQuestions,

First of all, please refrain from insulting other users, the mods WILL punish you for it. That being said, everyone has to take a first step when exploring something new. You took the first step exploring Linux. The fact that you use Windows to post is no problem whatsoever and I personally don't agree with silvyus_06 for that matter. I too hate M$ but yet use Microsoft Office (with CrossOver) since I need it at work. Sometimes I even start up a virtual Windows XP machine (for example if I have to connect to a HP Virtual Room). That in no way diminishes the love I feel for Linux. It's just what you need sometimes.

The fact is, use whatever you feel comfortable with, learn and read and when you get the grips of Linux, I'm sure that gradually you'll migrate all Windoze to Linux without looking back.

Have fun with Linux and keep it polite please.

Kind regards,

Eric

Here's an unbiased opinion - by making posts like these, you degrade your virtual reputation on LQ 'publicly', and thus making more and more people think of you as a true loser troll. To prove your worth, start posting in the technical sections, perhaps then people's opinion about you might change and they might start taking your posts seriously.
Moreover, a LQ rule says: Do not post if you do not have anything constructive to say.

I am always amazed by how short tempers get here. The distro/OS icon is, indeed, picked up from your browser. So silvyus asked a legitimate question. A good answer could have been "yes, I dislike Microsoft's products but I have to use them. As soon as I can I'll be jumping to a Linux distro". See?

On a more serious note, there is far too much name calling going on in this ,and in other, thread. It ends now, otherwise punitive measures will be taken.

If anything, I'm surprised at how level headed the discussions here can be....theres a thread on religion wandering around here with either some very level headed discussion, or some of most hardworking (and quiet!) mods/admins ever.

Generally, I find that the closer to the 'core' of the forum the subject is, the more heated the agruments and discussions. I've been shown some nasty flaming and trolling from a kintting site. LOL

But even the discussions on windows vs linux seem to be pretty reasonable in general, aside from the odd occasion when things get out of hand. I could go on but then I'd be way to close to 'name calling' and thats not a game I want to play. Even without warnings from mods.

I agree with Cascade. This is a very balanced forum. And for the most part, very level headed as he mentioned.

Its why I enjoy being here. Thanks to Jeremy and the Mods and LQ!

Ah, but when the tempers fray, the boards explode!

The religion thread is brilliant - lots of debate and discussion and no name calling. It is exactly what we at LQ want from that type of discussion. That said, wait until the US elections start up again, those debates get heated enough for the mods to practically squat in the threads bashing F5 to catch wrongdoers

You don't know what kind of bull crap I've been putting up with since I joined. I've been asked this ridiculous assinine question a dozen times already as if to imply that I have no right to an opinion about Windows as long as I am currently using Windows. It's a dumb question if there ever was one and is a total waste of bandwidth posted by would-be trolls trying to bait me into a confrontation and I don't mind lashing out. That's the NEW troll behavior these days in heavily moderated forums. Instead of outright trolling, just be a little pest to bait others into breaking a rule. Since I am new here, I don't have much invested in my pseudo persona. So, if you kick me, there's no huge loss. I'll just find another Linux forum with less juvenile members. Thanks for hearing me out.
