Hi

Total newbie to the world of Linux, am downloading Knoppix as I type this and have a copy of Debian on CD. Planning to put this on a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop in the near future. Web Developer and system work is what I do so hopefully I will pick up Linux reasonably quickly

/chris

Welcome to LQ!

As a matter of fact, I recently switched to Debian and I strongly recommend it. Even if you are a newbie. You can really learn Linux if you use Debian and it is a total community project free from the corporate influences.

It was these aspects that appealed when I was reading up on the different distributions.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Hi I am very interested in using Linux but am very Windows dependent at the time and need more info before I make the transition. I tried downloading the Knoppix CD but couldn't understand the site. If anyone has a direct link to it or has a copy they could send to me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
Stacy
