Help to Load Linux on Laptop
Thank you for your welcome.
I do hope I will be able to use Linux in the near future once my problem of loading L. on my Laptop is over. I have a Toshiba Laptop which had Vista bought id a few years ago. Now have a HP. My plan is to have Linux on the Toshiba and once I am use to to do the same to the HP. So far I have download LinuxMint and burn on a CD. It converted to 2 Folders and 3 files and renamed the CD UUI. The HDD of the Toshiba is 147Mb which I formatted with the HP. Put the HDD back into the Toshiba change the BIOS to read the CD. But I receive the following message "A operation sys was't not found. Try disconnecting any drive that contain an OS. Press Crtl+Alt+Del to restart". I have try, to be sure, CDs with Win XP & Win 7 and I get the same message. As if the Laptop is not reading the OS to start the loading any OS. I am stuck and don't know to do now. Please Help. I have read just about all comments on the net of how to load Linux but I have fail??? Thank you for future help. Ayota13. |
How did you create the CD of linux Mint?

I assume "147Mb" is a typo, vista would never fit on that.
Since the Win7/Xp disks have the same problem I guess your BIOS is not setup to boot from CD. often you can select a "one Time" boot in the very early stages after power on look for a message on screen , some thing like "XY for one time boot menu" and select the CD if not, then you will have to configure the boot order in the BIOS look for a message like "XY for setup" if you are still having problems with all that, provide the model number of the laptop so we can find a manual for it. |

Linux Finally Is Working
Sorry to answer your questions late due to an eye surgery. Your questions help me a lot to set up Linux Mint.
160Gb HDD comes from an old year 2005 Toshiba (T1) but can only use 147Gb; the laptop has since been discarded but I have kept the HDD. In 2012 I bought another Toshiba (T2) and was quieter than the T1. Then in 2017 bought a HP which I am using daily. But having many problems with unwanted updates for Win 10 and changed all my settings. Frustrated I decided to change OS hence Linux. I spent many days on the net reading about Linux. I decided to erase and reformat the T1 147Gb and leave the HDD of T2 as is. I downloaded Linux Mint 19.2. which is “linuxmint-19.2-cinnamon-64bit.iso” Some site said that it should transfer to USB using “Universal USB Installer 1.9.7.8 Setup” which I did then it created a USB called UUI with 2 Folders and 5 files. But it did not load on the empty formatted T1 HDD. I was asked as why I loaded on a USB. It got me thinking at night. Next day I use Nero and loaded Linux on a CD. It created 8 Folders and 2 Files. One of the Folder was name Boot! I could smell success. I open the CD tray with a pin, inserted the CD and started T2 and Bingo it loaded Linux Mint. Once I try restart a few times and it worked. I then Cloned the HDD to a 256Gb SSD. Of course I am very green with Linux; once I master the OS I will change my HP totally to Linux and RIH Win 10. (RIH Rest In Hell) Thank you for all for your advice, sure I will ask more in the future. “Linux: C’est Merveilleusement Magnifique” |
Thanl you all for your advice. I am up and running and love Linux.
