Smile Hello Peoples of Free Software

I have been using Kubuntu since Lucid Lynx came out a few months ago and I'm finding it easy to do most things, the only problem I've had was getting it to play cds and dvds.

Howdy and welcome metalestJames.

Have a look at

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

and

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

and you will be set as far as codecs for video and sound on cds and dvds

Thank you all, I downloaded as many of the packages I could find that would act as cd/dvd decoders, I'll try those out as soon as I can.
