Hello peeps

I am an old fart (55), though hopefully not boring, who studied Algol in the 60's where we had to submit programs on forms for operators to enter at teletypes hidden away in a basement somewhere in the depths of Moria.

On the plus side I have been interested in linux since Linus released it - having been playing with various forms of Unix for some years! BTW I also built a NASCOM in the 70's - ring any bells??

I found this place by typing a simple question into Google as I cannot for the life of me work out why Mandrake 9.1 won't install when every other version always has and even RedHat 9 flies onto my 'new' box - see the hardware forum and give me a leg up guys.

Welcome to LQ!

I just read over your Mandrake problem and haven't a clue Anything odd about your MOBO that you can tell us about? The thing that keeps buggin me is that you don't have any problems with getting RH on there though. SCSI drives? Any chance you could swap in another video card and try it?

Maybe it's just that Mandrake is such a rocket compared to RH that it heats it up too quickly (just kidding).

Good Luck, hopefully someone'll be able to suss out some options for you (Finegan? Aussie? ).
