Hello my fellows!~A brief look into a newbie's quest to become one with the computer

Alright to start things off, I just started college and I plan on becoming a programmer(and that's about as much as I know about what I want to do) maybe something in web devlopment too. I found out about Linux from reading an article titled 'How to be a Hacker' by Eric S. Raymond, and I have always been facinated by computers(though I am no expert, still quite the newbie on computers in generally) and Linux seemed like the pefect way to take a computer to the edge compared to windows so It interested me very much. I am very much a noob when it comes to Linux as well, I have a Acer Aspire One D250 netbook and I need to keep windows (I know it sucks, but I need to use office for school), so when it came to picking a disrto I really didn't know which to pick. I tried the Ubuntu Netbook Remix through a USB drive, but I couldn't get it to boot right(still not sure what I did wrong I never partioned anything, I don't know if that matters), but I ended up going with a newish distro made specifically for netbooks, it goes by the name of Jolicloud. SO far it has been alright, I like how the dashboeard looks, but I am thinking that I'm going to keep playing around and try to get the Ubuntu to work. Well thanks for reading all of that, I hope you somewhat enjoyed a brief look into my quest to someday become a wizard.
