Hello in Linux World
Hello to all out there in Linux world..
Thought I'd join a board to glean some info and have the odd gripe. All the best. Spanners P.S: I've just read a few "Hello's" and thought I'd better add a bit more detail. I'm another newbie to Linux, though I have been working in the IT industry for 15 years now. IBM midrange, networks and PCs. I would like to use Linux as a workstation and dual boot, but having so many problems with networking it may not be viable. Currently running a SUSE 10, which looks the part, but I am worried about a few "Features" whilst running with it. |
Hello + welcome! Sure you'll have fun starting out with SuSE 10, probably one of the easiest to learn the ropes on. Remember - the more you break, the more you'll learn ;)

Hi Spanners & welcome..!
Linux was built just for networking. Stick around and you'll see that theres' nothiing you cannot do... I dual boot with windows, and i have no problems... What's the thing you're having trouble with? Danimalz |
Morning Guys, thanks for the welcome.
Danimalz, without trying to subvert the welcome forum, I am having problems with a usb netgear wg111t. (see http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ghlight=wg111t ) I am not too sure anything can be done about it at the moment as I've trawled the web looking for ideas. But willing to try as a clean install only takes 22 minutes with SUSE 10. :D Cheers anyhow, Spanners |
Hey Spanners,
Im not a guru by any means, and im not familiar really, with SUSE. You should open a thread in the hardware forum, or the SUSE forum. Before you do that, try searching those forums for past posts that might answer your question. Honestly, this LQ is very good, but i've had better success solving problems by googling, and reading howtos at tldp.org. Also, when faced with hardware issues, always try the manufacturers websites; while many do not support linux, some do. One time I had a problem with a cheap network card (via, or something..). I searched and asked questions, nothing helped. Then i went to their website and they had a driver, and instructions.... Best2ya, Danimalz |
