Thanks for the info...I clicked on the Arch link and found a forum for newbies called Newbie Corner. Perfect for me.

Thanks Frankbell. I tried again to download Slackware and found a site in Austria that worked. I printed out your instructions re burning ISO so I'm all set. There is one thing I didn't understand in your message - had to Google RTFM. I promise I will RTFMOL. Thanks to all for getting me on the right path.

I think you should at least give a chance to the Arch forum we have here on LQ. Later on if you don't like it, you can choose to run away!
