Hello from 1 person in Central Washington State.

Hello.

I am a relatively new user. About 6 years. Enough time to know how little I know. I started using the internet at the Bainbridge Island Public Library about 12 years ago, and became fascinated with it. It was just after color graphics became available at the library. Then I spent countless hours using the computers at work and loved the dsl speed. (Cruising the internet when I was not working was allowed.)

After I left that company, I was internet deprived, and soon bought a laptop and started with dial-up. Trojans, spyware, adware, etcetera-ware! I became fed up, and decided something had to change.

Looking for Linux.

I went to a local bookstore and found a book about Mepis Linux with a live cd of Mepis 3.3.2. It worked, and I have been using Linux and Gnu software ever since. (I still use windows for about 0.5 percent of what I like, that as yet I have not been able to run successfully on my favorite distro's.)

I use several distributions, although I have a soft spot for Mepis, even though a number of releases did not work well for me. (I had real problems when udev first came out. All of a sudden I could not use most of my peripherals, and I found myself unable to fix it. I tried quite a few different distributions, and slowly the situation got better, not by my doing, but by the hard work of other people in the Linux community.) Right now I am using Mepis 8.0.10-rel_64 on a 64 bit dual core t400 Lenovo with 8Gb of ram. I also have a fiber optic internet connection.

I love the tools I have now, and one of the best tools is the dedication and help of everyone in the Linux/Gnu community.

Many Thanks.

Thanks, I thought this was just an intro. I did not want to start a thread yet, but that is a good idea.
