Hello everyone good morning from Australia ,it's finally happened ,Microsoft has pushed me over the edge..

Hello everyone , I'm a newbie member from Albury ,Australia where it is already 10:50AM Sunday.
My name is Nigel aka Catswhiskers ,it's finally happened..after 20 years of "satisfied" Windows usage Microsoft have pushed me over the "Edge"-no pun intended..I cannot take their poor excuse for a browser any longer ,the only way to get rid of this monstrosity was for me to ditch WIN 11 and reinstall Win7 Pro and disable updates ,but that isn't really a viable solution in 2024,so here's my plan and question .
I have a 14 inch Lenovo Ideapad Slim 1 laptop running 4GB RAM ,117GB SSD ,my question is can I dual boot a Linux distro win WIN 10 easily and any recommendations for a Linux neewbie about distros ?
Thanks for any advice.
Cheers

Hello goumba,
Many thanks for the kind words and I send you good wishes for a pleasant Sunday.
I see that you are from the USA,my wife is an American citizen currently stuck in Duluth MN awaiting the grant of her spouse visa.
It's been 6 years since I have seeen her so there are certainly things worse than Microsoft Edge lol.
Anyway thanks again for the welcome.
Cheers
And thanks linustalman for your welcome too,I hope your Sunday is a good one.
Cheers

yes, you can...

below is a tutorial, it suggests Kali linux, but you may find most distros could be installed along side of win10 in the same manner. I myself use Devuan, it's a bit freer as it detatches it's self from a m$/redhat proprietary evolution path(IMHO).

first the link to the tute...
https://www.golinuxcloud.com/dual-bo...-10-and-linux/

and a link to some info about Devuan (a debian based distro without systemd).
https://www.devuan.org/os/
you could download the "devuan_daedalus_5.0.1_amd64_desktop.iso" for a full install, but not live, boots to the install program.

or try it first with xfce4 LIVE desktop, https://mirror.leaseweb.com/devuan/d...sktop-live.iso

In that tute above, just change kali for whatever distro you desire and you should be fine.

The devuan live iso will give you the opportunity to install it from the live desktop... it works.

you may need to setup a blank partition first so you don't blow away your win install.

All the best, from Brisvagas.

Cheers!

Yes you can dual boot (I don't as I don't run any M$ Windoze). My personal favorite is KUbuntu LTS. Mint Cinnamon is also ok. Would not recommend any Gnome DE as it is 'foreign' to any previous Windows users. You'll feel more at home with KDE or Cinnamon DEs. Hope your quest goes well.
