Thumbs up Hello all

Looks like this is the place. Found the answer to my question right off the bat. Harley51 supplied the answer, and Harley, I grew up in Downey and live in Puyallup WA since 1968. Time for me to crash, be back here tomorrow.

Actually, it isn't.
Harley51 won't see your post unless he/she/it/they/other (select one) is trolling for 0-reply threads. The best place to express appreciation to a particular contributor is to post in reply to the same thread - you post the particulars of your problem (bound to be a bit different) and then state which solution/suggestion worked for you.

This is helpful because it provides more connections for someone else searching the same or similar problem to find the solution.

The best way to show your appreciation is by trolling the 0-reply threads yourself and helping someone out. We don't actually do this for the appreciation (well, not mainly) but as a way of saying "thanks" for help we have received ourselves. When someone helps you, you pay it forward.

If you think I'm being over-critical of a newb who just wanted to pass on a positive note, consider: in what way does your post help anybody else solve their problem or understand things better?

Welcome to Paul

Simon--you are not being critical--your are being proactive. Big difference.

At least Paul said thank you---I cannot believe the number of threads here where OP asks a question and is never heard from again.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in <Introductions>, since it really is not a Linux-question but a "Say hi" thread, and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

That all said: welcome to LQ, and I'm glad you find the
forum helpful.

... happens yes. Half a dozen attempts to help and no feedback.

My personal hated thread though is where the OP pipes up "problem solved" and vanishes.

I note that Paul has also edited his profile... another good sign.
So how you getting on Paul? Decided on a distro yet?
