Hello

I've become quite bored with Windows and all of the issues surrounding the OS, especially viruses and other little nasties, so I've decided to 'revamp' my Dell Inspiron 1545 to a Linux platform.

I've installed Xubuntu and the only issue I'm having, so far, is getting WiFi working. I've seen a couple of posts within these forums and found that I needed the BCM drivers to get me up and running but now find myself at a loss as to how to get those within Xubuntu for installation. I've extracted the files and burned both the tar.gz file and extracted items to a CD but am running into permission errors.

I don't give up easily and hope to have WiFi access by the end of the day. :) Any tips would be appreciated ... greatly!

The Broadcom drivers are in the Ubuntu repos.

In the Synaptic Package Manager, go to Settings-->Repositories-->Ubuntu and enable the "Proprietary Drivers for Devices" repo, update the listings, and search for Broadcom.
