hello

I have not yet decided which distribution I like best of Zenwalk 4.6.1, Xubuntu, Sidux, or Etch, but I am leaning towards Zenwalk 4.6.1.

I was using netpkg for security updates and when I encountered a problem using security updates in Zenwalk 4.6.1 and I abandoned Zenwalk updates for a while.

The friend of mine who set up my multiple boot suggested joining the Zenwalk forum and reading the posts concerning netpkg because the problem has been solved for others in similar situation to mine.

I am just going to read all the threads related to netpkg from 2006 July 17 (when Zenwalk 4.6.1 was installed) and todays date of 2008 May 9.

I have very modest system administration skills and would like to know which threads I should read to explore the problem.

The computer on which I have Zenwalk 4.6.1 is a Pentium IV 500 MHz Azura computer with 192 Meg RAM and an 8 gig hard drive and a 200 Gig hard drive, a DVD writer, and cd writer.

My hobbies include singing, sketching, and gardening, in addition to fooling around with Linux.

Regards,

Michael

I was having problems figuring out how to search forums for posts over a year old, but discovered how to do so by editing search preferences. I found that to search for posts over one year old I had to select "all posts".

Now that I have the posts, I am going to systematically go through the posts on netpkg and zenwalk from oldest to newest and read them all when I have time. There are not too many of these posts, so I expect to read them all before the day is out.

I must do some other daily activities before I log in again.

When I finish reading the posts I will let you all know whether I succeeded in finding out how to get netpkg working again and get my Zenwalk security updates working again.

I see that since I had Zenwalk 4.6.1 installed Zenwalk 5.0 is available.

Is it possible and desirable for the starter of a thread to end it? How long do you want the thread "Hello" to last?

Regards,

zenmike
