Greetings to all

Hello to all LQ Users;

I'm new to this site. Although a Linux Mint user for a number of years, I've not delved into the inner workings. Instead have used it as I had Windows. The collection of open-sourced software, however, has differences which I've simply worked around. The most frustrating has been the default dictionary. I as well as our other users get red-lined on common words since the dictionary favors the English version. Its time for change. I'm hoping to find this site a resource to help with such issues and help all of us grow in understanding Linux and open-sourced software.

I look forward to a healthy exchange of thoughts.

Sincerely,
cptnbley

Hi and WELCOME! Looks like you already had a successful solution (to dictionary) from LQ! (here)

I share your enthusiasm for "growing" in Linux; totally FUN 'puzzles' for me;)

One thing I enjoy doing (&LQ advocates) is: web-[re]searching:
discovering optimal keywords is my 'game';)

I'm always amazed by how much a few just-right key words finds; from your #1, I used:
linux default dictionary
and found some 'GUI application' references that I didn't know about!
(which is why LQ'ers often ask for more specifics, like 'which application?', to add to search)

Best wishes! ENJOY!

Growing into Linux

Thank you to all who responded. In just one day this LQ site has yielded more responses and solutions than I ever received at the Linux forum. The members here are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and anxious to tutor those, like me, relative newcomers.

Someone tried to get me into using Opera 15 years ago and I even bought the software package. Fear and a lack of understanding held me in its grip so I never even installed it. Another gentleman introduced me to Linux Mint 9 years ago and even helped me install it on my desktop. I was shown the open-source software and ease of use, and here I am today. This OS is so easy to use and the children love it. Compact, easy to use, expandable and secure. And the savings on software is a blessing for us.

Thanks to all for your responses and assistance.
