Greetings, Salutations, and hello

Hi, All!

I just stumbled upon this site from the SCALE website, and thought it would be kule to have another source for answers, and up-to-date information. Perhaps I can even answer some questions.

I have been using linux since (can't remember the date) I installed Caldera 1.3 - That was a neet install! All the hardware and preference questions were up front, then it threw up a Tetris game and the message "You play Tetris, I'll install the OS"!

I've installed and used Redhat 5.2, 6.0 and 7.3, and my curent system is Debian Woody. I think I'll maybe install SUSE next, or perhaps something in the BSD family, depending on what I want the box to do.

I dual booted the RH 5.2 and 6.0 systems with win'95, until I b0rk3d Win'95, then just thought "Oh well, I didn't need it any way" and moved my /boot to /dev/hda1 and used the rest of that partition for a /backup. I have been Microsoft free for about 3 years

I use my curent desktop as a LAMP development environment, as well as for typical desktop stuff, and I'm in the process of teaching my spouse how to use Linux for all her computing needs.

I have setup a Linux teamspeak server for a relative that loves to play MMRPG's, and will soon be setting up that box as a dedicated IRC server and SAMBA file server as well. Most of my activities on that box are remote admin functions (no gui available)

I have also been involved in data collection activities that sometimes require remote access to a mysql database, and thank the developers of phpMyAdmin for such a usefull tool. If I had to do all that stuff via telnet and shell access to mysql, I'd have gone b0nk3rs.

While I haven't seen it all, or done it all, I have a prety good grasp on some small sections of reality.

Oh, and by the way, I do value data and facts, and give quatified/verified data much more credence than un-substantiated rumors, random thoughts, and "it's my way or the highway" attitudes. I do, however realize that there are oftem multipal correct ways to do a particular task, and reserve the right to use which ever way I wish. (I use LILO, instead of GRUB, mostly because it works and I know it, and GRUB gave me trouble once. I won't argue the virtues of GRUB over LILO, as I know both work exceedingly well, I just prefer LILO).

So, That's me, and my Linux experience in a nutshell

Oh, and if one or more of you have a possition you think I might work well in, let me know, as I am also looking for gainfull employment!
