New to the Linux world at home. I hate Microsoft with a passion! I bought a MAC about 10 years ago for the house and never looked back. At my job I administrate Avaya PBX's and Avaya periphials for the PBX. All of that gear uses either a Red Hat Linux or Solaris, or has a Cisco like CLI interface. I have been in this career for about 20 years now, I can navigate CLI and do just simple stuff like Copy, Move, Delete and create files, and navigate through directories, which has been good enough up to this point. So I figured I would go ahead and bite the bullet and buy a Laptop, and load Linux on it and see what all this is about. I got a Dell D820 loaded Ubuntu 12.10, and started, the first week I figured out that when I installed it I did not partition correctly, reloaded yesterday, now working through those pesky little problems like video card drivers, I have found some wonderful help on this site that the Ubuntu forums did not address, like adding a depositry for Nvidia drivers through the CLI. and the exact apt-get command to download and install the driver. I am looking forward to tackling other tasks like copying, and backing up my DVD collection, and learning scripting that will help me in my career. Thanks to all that are here, and look forward to researching and learning this operating system.
