Grateful Greetings!

Hi !
I'm really new. But old. I'll explain: I know so little Linux it's laughable--the kind of laughable where people point and chortle behind their hand; that makes me new. I'm also a codger who did Z80 assembler on a Xerox 820 and actually owned a Timex-Sinclair with the 16K RAM expansion!
After a lot of years writing about microcontrollers, I'm writing about INFOSEC; so I studied really hard and got a CISSP cert, and actually retain some of what I learned. I am continuing to learn about today's networks and I really want to learn as much Linux as I can. I've built a network lab out of nine old computers and schmutzz around with them sniffing packets.
My next ambition is to do the Network+ cert, then if I'm ready, Linux+ (unless somebody suggests some better (more thorough) course of study. After that, and all my ancillary reading and work, I might be ready to be a CEH.
I don't just learn this stuff to pass exams, I want to retain as much as possible. I still have the Xerox, but I'm running out of 8 inch floppies.

Respectfully,
HMax

Welcome!!

Since we're telling "gummer" stories, I learned programming in Fortran (I or II) on some kind of IBM mainframe---fed by a model 36 keypunch machine.

We were all Linux newbies once.
