Wink Goodbye Windoze, you won't be missed! Linux newbie reporting for duty

Hello LQ!

I've been a dissatisfied customer and user of various OS put out by M$ for years. Here's why I switched to Linux...

Couple of weeks ago I reached a saturation point and just couldn't take anymore of WinXP. For maybe two to three years I had been trying to make my system secure, stable and light as possible. Finding no adware or such on the system for a year seemed like an achievement but the system was far from stable, doing things behind my back and needing regular maintenance.

To put a stop to the annoyances I downloaded such varied distros as Linux Mint, Sidux and Kubuntu. Using Mint 7, I was able to prove to myself that I could do everything I was used to in XP. Now I had no excuse to use a system I never liked in the first place, but Mint seemed too easy and linux too enjoyable that I turned to Ubuntu 9.04.

Now that I got everything working in Ubuntu I'm going to go a bit deeper into the command line and how things really work by testing Slackware 13 on another partition.

I have started using Linux by using Slackware.

Actually it was very painful, but I also learned a lot. Nowadays I use Gentoo, which is actually more customizable than Slackware.
