Anyone sitting here?

No? Mind if I join you?

Just a quick introduction, I'm system admin/manager with a small UK company running CentOS servers at customer sites. The servers run a mix of our custom app(s), postgresql, email, groupware and a couple of other services as required. The customers' staff access their server through a mix of Win PCs, thin clients and remote access via FreeNX. I monitor and support this particular herd of cats at the same time as keeping our team of developers from wiping the CVS repository at least once a week.

I use Ubuntu 10.10 at work after switching from Fedora, and don't think Unity is quite ready yet.

I'll try not to make a fool of myself here.

Whats the point of being on a forum and not making a fool of yourself? If you dont, you'll just make the rest of us look bad as well.

Enjoy the forums, and dont worry to much, everyone makes a fool of themselves sooner or later. Sometimes its the fastest way to learn.

I was trained on the FN SLR - a far superior chunk of hardware.

That's very nice, I don't have to lie anymore now. The above Mod keeps a dozen hand grenades in his pockets and uses the newbies as guinea pigs. Don't be surprised if tomorrow you find your account deleted!

The dime a dzoen models will be made in China clones. A nickel should get an inferiour russian version with a machined reciver, the better stamped reciver models (mostly AKMs) would be even more. Then there is always the yugoslav models, which I've heard from a former russian soilder were the best of them.

Wait a sec, did they give the FN-FALs the 'SLR' monkier in the UK? I thought only us colonials used that term.

FN-FALs might be a little more accurate, but the design is like taking horse muscles and puttign them on a dog. They were originaly designed to use a much smaller round (a 'short' round like the Sturmgewehr 44 IRC...or was it the british .280? I forget), and reaming them out to NATO 7.62 was pushign teh design abotu as far as it would go.

AKs are less accurate, but they make much better entrenching tools, props, etc. they are a lot tougher.

I'd probably take an AK over a SLR, but it would depend on the climate/conditions/use. Not that I could have either, autos havent been legal here since pre-WW2 (apart from tasmania) and even smei-autos have been illegal for years now.

Genades? But x-russian RPGs are so cheap, and if AKs are a dime a dozen then the RPGs should be damned cheap as well.

BTW, I forgot what thread you asked on, but you wanted to know how lupusarcanus did that upside down writing the sig? With this-

http://www.sherv.net/flip.html

Dont tell 'em I told you, or else lupusarcanus will bug Tinkster for cheap AKs for giving the game away.

Thanks for saying that, but if you think I'm being an idiot, go ahead and hit the button.
