Any Corporate Users?

Hi,

Just saying hello to the wider community and would like to communicate with some Corporate Enterprise users where we can share knowledge and some trials and tribulations...

Regards,

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

We are currently experimenting with Linux in the corporate. We are long-time users of Solaris, but have relied on Windows for much of the infrastructure. I am beginning to deploy Linux for critical applications such as web serving, DNS, and FTP. It is much more friendly to use than Solaris and the supported platforms allow me to use hardware that I might not normally be able to deploy.

In any case, welcome. I'm sure you will find a lot of support here for whatever you wish to do.

Eric

Corporate Here

We curently use Red Hat Enterprise 3 and 4 in our corporate environment.
This is along with AIX, HP-UX, Solaris.
We also have a smattering of intelligent devices that use embedded linux as their host OS.

Currently we use Linux for hosting Oracle Databases and BEA Weblogic applications. To Red Hat's credit, it does a fine job for both, although it seems that Database performance is much better on Linux than it was on Solaris, the BEA application performance is only about the same as it was on Solaris.

To Red Hat's detriment, we have found that working with SAN environments and Linux is something of a nightmare, what with having to reboot to get the HBA's to rescan to detect changes during zoning. This is with QLogic and Emulex adapters both. It would be less of a problem if we weren't actually booting from the SAN as well. Since we are booting from the SAN, we can't just reset the driver as we might have otherwise.

As stated in my own intro, I also work with a smattering of distros at home, mostly just experimenting and learning about the differences and how well they interoperate on my varying hardware that I have available to play with. My wife thinks I need a hobby that's different from my work. I think that I'm lucky in that I love what I do, and get paid to boot!
