Smile Another newbie checking in. George Gilbert at your service.

Greetings all. I am a retired long haul trucker who also likes computing. I used to be able negotiate DOS fairly well, and later moved up the win ladder. But I always liked the idea behind linux. So.... I got up the nerve and bought Linux For Dummies, Red Hat edition, and installed it on an old Celeron machine. In the meantime, I started working for a structural engineer committing old blueprints to 3d drawings with Autocad. Linux was forgotten for the time. The job finished and this time I purchased the Slackware 13.1 distro which I found easy for a Windows guy to install and configure. But...... and it's a big but, I'm stuck using XWindows because I'm scared of the command line. I just bought a workbook, The Command Line, by Mike Weber and hope it will get me up to speed and take some of the scare out of the blinking cursor.
Again, greetings to all,
George
