Just another intro: Call me Skippy. I have used quite a few distros, most for very brief instances. The only distros I've used for extended times were: Slackware, Arch/Blackarch, Gentoo/Pentoo, Kali and BackBox. As you can probably tell, I do have a vague background in Pentesting/EH and tend to lean towards KISS distros. Slackware was my beginning, my middle, and my ending distro. I have tried many but have always come back home to Slack. Probably not up to admin or guru status but definitely at least moderate poweruser/commandline junky. I would love to help in any way I can but may also be looking for help from time to time... so ...Here I am.

I done a little lurking yesterday and found quite a few threads I could have helped on but they were very outdated with no recent activity. I will continue to peek around as I have time and offer assistance.

Thanks,
Skippy

Excellent method and I'm guessing that you'll just refine that over the years as you grow your time in LQ. Great start though at recognizing that very old threads are sometimes best left alone. There are plenty that are very old, but still active, because they're continuing discussions, mostly non-technical. And then there are the very old questions which you can encounter and fortunately LQ alerts you about resurrecting threads older than a few months.

Using the Quick Links up top can show you "new posts" and "zero reply threads". Whatever works for you. I browse the zero reply list from time to time and then open a tab per forum for the various forums where I'd most commonly have stuff to offer.

Enjoy! And once again, Welcome!

I will absolutely check into the "zero reply's" and "new posts" as well. I am still learning my way around here. I have visited the forums hundreds of times through the years as a google search would send me here and I have just never taken the time to register and contribute as awful as that sounds. I am always willing to share any experience as well as knowledge to anyone that can use it in a positive way and that alone has been known to keep me busy in real life (hands on) situations at home, at work, on BBS sites as well as conventions. I have finally come to the age (gotten old) that I would rather just be home when not working and dedicate this time and knowledge to my own children when they show interest, so I figure that helping on such a well known as well as respectful and knowledgeable forum I can still give back to the community as well. I look forward to seeing you out there.

Thanks,
Skippy

LOL I think we're thinking of 2 different types of BBS sites. I was referring to Bulletin Board Sites. Maybe I am showing my age on that one as well LOL. It used to be the way of secure online messaging for IT guys, Pentesters, as well as other types of hobbyists of the electronic information field. Not that I wouldn't date myself... I am lots of fun for an old fat guy LOL. My children do have a great interest in electronics as most do, the task is making sure it's not focused on social media or worse. I've had my 12 year old hooked on linux for a few years now which is one of the reasons I did try a few other distros. My oldest daughter (13) also runs only linux with no regrets on her laptop. I am teaching my son Python on his free time and he loves it.

Thanks,
Skippy
